Focusing closely on the months between August 1986 and January 1987, Mallon recreates the Cold War’s final, treacherous days, recreating the Soviet-American negotiations in Iceland as well as the rising panic and anger surrounding AIDS, events he reimagines from the perspectives of the Reagans, Nancy’s astrologer, Margaret Thatcher, Christopher Hitchens, and a host of others.
