58:30Now PlayingFriedman, a former correspondent in the AP’s Jerusalem bureau who has reported on issues related to archaeology and religion, made his publishing debut with The Aleppo Codex, an international bestseller whose many honors included the American Library Association’s Sophie Brody Medal. For his second book, Friedman turns to his own experience as an Israeli soldier in the 1990s, and to one military engagement in particular. Ordered to hold a Lebanese hill known as Pumpkin, Friedman and his fellow soldiers were caught in an unwinnable struggle in an unnamed war—an ambiguous and deadly situation more and more typical of modern warfare.
