Her new historical novel evokes the glamour and intrigue of a group of far-flung expats in 1930s Indochina, telling the story of Jessica Lesage, an American married to the French heir to the Michelin rubber fortune. Initially accepting the exploitative power structure of the plantation system, Jessica has second thoughts when she meets the bewitching Marcelle de Fabry and Khoi Nguyen, her silk tycoon lover, and is caught up in the increasingly heated political struggles around her.
