P&P Live! Writers Against Trump DC | WHAT JUST HAPPENED? Post-Election Panel

Authors Michael Eric Dyson and James Carroll come together for a roundtable discussion of the post-election moment moderated by Carolyn Forché. This event is produced in partnership with Writers Against Trump. Writers Against Trump is comprised of writers who have come together to oppose the racist, destructive, incompetent, corrupt and fascist regime of Donald Trump, and to give language, thought, and time to his defeat in November. We believe that this presidency is uniquely dangerous to our present and future society. Writers Against Trump collaborates with organizations seeking to encourage voter turnout, promote candidates who resist the Trump apparatus, protect the election from fraud and theft, and mobilize in the event of post-election trouble.

Carolyn Forché is a poet, and memoirist. She is the author of five books of poetry, most recently In the Lateness of the World (Penguin Press, 2020), and a prose book, What You Have Heard Is True: A Memoir of Witness and Resistance (Penguin Press, 2019), winner of Juan E. Mendez Book Award for Human Rights in Latin America and a finalist for the National Book Award. Her anthology, Against Forgetting, has been praised by Nelson Mandela as “itself a blow against tyranny, against prejudice, against injustice.” In 1998 in Stockholm, she received the Edita and Ira Morris Hiroshima Foundation for Peace and Culture Award. She is a University Professor at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

James Carroll is the author of twelve novels, and eight works of non-fiction. For twenty-three years, he wrote an oped column for The Boston Globe, and his work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and other publications. He has received the National Book Award, the PEN Galbraith Award, and the Scripps Howard Award. In 2021, he will publish The Truth at the Heart of the Lie, a reckoning with his life as a Catholic. He lives in Boston with his wife, the writer Alexandra Marshall.

A contributing opinion writer for the New York Times, and political analyst for MSNBC, Dyson is recipient of two NAACP Image Awards and the 2020 Langston Hughes Festival Medallion.
