Calling all comics lovers!

Join Ira Marcks, author/illustrator of the new book Spirit Week, for a virtual workshop about graphic novels. Marcks will share how he creates graphic novels that work as kid-friendly creepy mysteries with on-screen examples of panels from his books Spirit Week and Shark Summer. Participants will also enjoy a draw-along lesson and can ask Marcks all of their drawing- and graphic novel-related questions.

Spirit Week reintroduces readers to Eli Jones, the teenage documentarian from Shark Summer. Eli is spending a week filming at the famous Underlook Hotel, which is about to be demolished and is the home of the reclusive horror writer Jack Axworth. Along with Eli is Suzy Hess, who is there to tutor Jack’s son, Danny. As they go about their tasks, they find themselves investigating a local curse that threatens the landmark hotel. Can Elijah’s footage help the teens learn more?

Ira Marcks is a cartoonist living in Upstate New York with his wife, their cat and dog, and lots of books he's been meaning to read. His love for ancient magic and possible futures has led him to create a warehouse of esoteric objects for the Hugo Award-winning magazine Weird Tales and to tell stories about villainous technology for the European Research Council.
