US President Donald Trump struck three of Iran’s key nuclear facilities this weekend in support of Israel’s escalating campaign against Tehran. Gerges outlines the serious risks of such an intervention, including the potential for full-scale regional war and hypocrisy on the part of the UK and the rest of the West. Gerges draws clear parallels between today’s rhetoric and the lead-up to the Iraq War in 2003, given the manufactured intelligence, political pressure, and potentially catastrophic consequences.
In the back half of the podcast, the pair turn to the UK’s decision to label Palestine Action a terrorist organisation, following its direct action targeting RAF Brize Norton, a key military base linked to arms shipments to Israel. Is this a proportionate response to vandalism and disruption, or a worrying crackdown on protest and dissent?
