YouTube Description
as posted by the channelPeter Oborne came by the PoliticsJOE studio upon the release of his new book Complicit: Britain's role in the destruction of Gaza.
During this interview, he lays bare how successive UK governments, the media, and the international community have played a decisive role in enabling Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
As public opinion in Britain has turned sharply against Israel’s ongoing devastation of Gaza, figures at the heart of both the Conservative and Labour parties continue to deny even the possibility of Israeli war crimes. Whether out of ideology or political expediency, Oborne argues, these leaders have made themselves “complicit”, at the very least, in crimes against humanity.
Through Rishi Sunak’s unconditional backing for Israel after October 7th, Keir Starmer’s assertion that Israel had the “right” to cut off power and water to civilians, Osborne tracks British complicity. From supplying parts for F-35 fighter jets used in civilian bombings to cutting off aid to UNRWA, Gaza’s humanitarian lifeline, the UK’s role was material. British complicity even extends to RAF reconnaissance flights that served Israeli operations, the banning of domestic dissent groups like Palestine Action, and the vilification of anti-war voices as antisemitic.
His analysis is a damning indictment of British political culture, media cowardice, and moral failure. Watch as he unpacks how a supposedly democratic nation became an accessory to mass slaughter, and what it will take for Britain to confront its own responsibility.
