YouTube Description
as posted by the channelBefore Aston Villa dispatched Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-0 in their UEFA Europa League clash last night, there were tense scenes around Birmingham as police were brought in from far and wide to monitor the situation.
Weeks before kick off West Midlands Police made headlines for their decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv from travelling for their tie against Aston Villa over concerns about the hooligan element of their support, who have been involved in several incidents across Europe ranging from on-street violence to Islamophobia and threats. Keir Starmer took matters into his own hands and tried to overturn the police's decision, until Maccabi Tel Aviv themselves decided not to take up their ticket allocation for the game.
Despite no travelling fans, over 700 police officers from surrounding jurisdictions came to Birmingham for the game, which saw six arrests on the night.
Pro-Palestine protesters took. to Villa Park to show their opposition to Maccabi showing up to the game, and pro-Israel supporters descended on the stadium to show opposition to the stadium ban.
