WATCH Addicted to Trauma Bonding? WATCH TO THE END! (with Stephanie Carinia, Trauma Expert)

WATCH Trauma Bonding as Fantasy Defense (World Psychiatrists and Psychologists Conference, November 2021)

Trauma bonding is an extreme, unidirectional, self-harming attachment.

It is fostered by traumatizing, unpredictable, intermittent reinforcement involving a power asymmetry.

These lead to dissonance and ambivalence (identifying with the abuser).

Narcissist’s introject casts the narcissist as a victim. It explains why some victims feel guilty or remorseful or self-doubting for no good reason.

Trauma bonding is often a form of self-mutilation or self-harm, replete with the same three functions: 1. To numb dysregulated emotions that threaten to overwhelm us; 2. To allow us to feel alive through pain; 3. To punish, defeat, and destroy ourselves.

Drama Bonding is an extreme, bidirectional (collaborative) self-harming attachment.

It is fostered by traumatizing, unpredictable, intermittent reinforcement, object withdrawal, and structural narrative fantasy, uncertainty, indeterminacy, and insecurity involving a power asymmetry.

It leads to anxiety, desperation, and acting out.
