You can calm them down by displays of submission and flattery in a highly specific sequence: enlightenment/awakening, concession, amends.
Narcissists hold submissive, dumb, and weak people in contempt which only compounds their rage. So, make it about him, not about you.
Don’t be too obvious: the narcissist will experience this as manipulation and it will trigger aggression.
