24:36Now PlayingOn November 14th, 2019, Michael Picard went to the Stamford (CT) Government Center (town hall) to protest Stamford's use of eminent domain on a family who has lived in their home for more than 40 years. Eminent domain is when the government steals private property to use for a public purpose. For example, in 1996, the city of New London (CT) seized people's homes, promising jobs and economic growth. To this day, nothing has been done with the land. It created no new jobs or economic growth.
Michael held a sign that read, "fuck your property," and attributed it to Stamford. Shortly after arriving, the police were called. He was arrested for breach of peace, for offending people, and interfering, for refusal to ID even though the officers said he wasn't being detained. This kicked off a one year court battle, but the case was dismissed on December 11th, 2020.
