The next class of drugs is antitussives, and these are intended to halt the cough reflex. Tussis, or coughing, is a complex physiological response to irritants in the airways, and certain drugs seek to dampen this response when harmful to a patient. Let's discuss the pathways responsible for tussis, and the types of drugs that can interact with these pathways and inhibit them, such as codeine, dextromethorphan, and Tessalon.
