8:11Now PlayingOn 6 May 2024, Israel began a military offensive in and around the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip. It did so despite warnings from its Western allies that any such offensive would have catastrophic effects on the more than one million displaced Palestinians sheltering in Rafah.
On May 24, 2024, the International Court of Justice ordered that Israel immediately halt its offensive in Rafah. Israel responded by mercilessly bombing the city.
Throughout the month of May, Hezbollah and Israel's military have intensified their attacks on each other in the border areas of the two countries. On May 25 -- the anniversary of the expulsion of Israel's occupation forces from south Lebanon in 2000 -- Dimitri Lascaris returned to Beirut for the third time since Israel launched its war on Gaza on October 7. In his first report since arriving in Beirut, Lascaris explains why he has returned to Lebanon, and what he hopes to accomplish on this journey.
