5:48Now PlayingBrian Lilley of TheRebel.Media reports on the news of Mohammed Fahmy's sentencing.
It's a cause célèbre these days trying to get Mohammed Fahmy out of an Egyptian jail.
At any time, there are thousands of Canadians in jails around the world for breaking or allegedly breaking laws in other countries but Canada can't always get them out.
Fahmy is a journalist who was working for the Qatar backed Al Jazeera when he was arrested in 2013. There's no question that this is a situation that has a lot of political stakes in it so is it as simple as Thomas Mulcair and Justin Trudeau would have you believe?
Brian explains why it isn't that simple and why just loudly proclaiming that Mohammed Fahmy's a Canadian and therefore he should get out of jail, is naive and not likely to get results.
