After an accident on the TransCanada Highway, some Calgarians drove down side roads on the Stoney Indian Reserve to get around it. Incredibly, some residents of the reserve set up road blocks and charged drivers to pass!
It was an illegal shakedown, what used to be called "highway robbery." So what was Alberta Premier Notley's response? What about the band's leaders? They seem confused about the law, and hesitant to criticize the wrongdoers.
(Speaking of the Stoney leaders, they made $2.2M tax free, and expensed an additional million dollars. So why are so many reserve residents are still living in temporary housing, two years after the flood?)
