3:50Now PlayingSheila Gunn Reid of TheRebel.Media asks, do you know who Rob Merrifield is? Well many people don’t but he has been working hard for us in Alberta for the past half year.
Rob Merrifield was appointed by Jim Prentice to be Alberta’s highest envoy to the United States. Merrifield’s appointment was one of the rare things that Prentice did that was a great idea.
Merrifield is an experienced legislator. He had been chair of the standing committee on International trade during his time in Stephen Harper's government. Better yet, he is a farmer from Mayerthorpe. He is starkly different from so many of Notley’s important appointments. Her appointments all tend to be urban activists imported here from out of province.
But here’s the problem: Rob Merrifield was good at his job. In fact, probably too good. He got within 4 votes of having veto proof support in the United States Senate for Keystone XL. Notely just can’t have that. She opposes Keystone XL along with her federal friend, Thomas Mulcair. And now, Merrifield’s contract hasn’t been renewed. That’s too convenient.
