4:24Now PlayingBrian Lilley of TheRebel.Media asks, have the Liberals really changed their spots or are they the same old lobbyists running campaigns (possibly government) based on their clients?
Liberal campaign co-chair Dan Gagnier, had to step down as a result of his multi-page memo to TransCanada outlining how they could effectively lobby a new Liberal or NDP government for a pipeline.
Initially the Liberals defended him saying his advice to TransCanada had "nothing to do with his volunteer role on the campaign." A Liberal spokeswoman, (one that had worked for scandal plagued Kathleen Wynne in the past), said he was just offering advice.
They defended him then fired him --- because they were caught.
On CBC’s Power and Politics, Liberal Susan Smith said there were plenty of volunteer lobbyists on the Liberal team. But they're not allowed to be there. The NDP and the Conservatives have said you can be a lobbyist or you can work on our campaign, you cannot do both.
Telling your client how to lobby the party you are the co-campaign chair of, does smack of dirty politics.
The Liberals washed their hands of Gagnier but is that the end of the story?
A report by Macleans says the Liberals knew about Gagnier’s work with TransCanada for months. They knew he was advising them on how to get their pipeline through Quebec. They claim they thought he was just advising on how to deal with the provincial government, not a new federal government run by Justin Trudeau.
Do you believe it? I don't.
