Sheila Gunn Reid of TheRebel.Media reports:
Farmers, ranchers and their supporters from all across the province showed up to rally against Bill 6 on the steps of the Alberta legislature Monday.
They came to the legislature to express their opposition to the new law that would extend to OHS, WCC and labour laws, including unionization rights, to their family farms. Along with the farmers, Wildrose MLAs and their Progressive Conservative colleagues chanted that the NDP should "Kill Bill 6."
While other news media are reporting a crowd of about 1000, the sign up sheet passed around by the rally organizers had 1800 names on it. I spoke to dozens of farmers worried that the government is pushing Bill 6 through without proper consultation. Hutterite farmers are concerned this is a targeted attack on their way of life.
If we've learned anything about the NDP in Alberta, they are scared of push back. The outrage of Albertans made them put the brakes on their planned 7.25% raise for senior government bureaucrats.
Will rolling rallies across the province over the coming days be enough to get the NDP to blink again? I hope so.
