Women in Saudi Arabia will be voting and standing for office for the first time in municipal elections this weekend.
The decision to bring the Monarchy closer to the current century by allowing women to take part in elections is seen as part of the late King Abdullah’s legacy in a decision made on his deathbed.
But we shouldn’t allow this minor gesture to lull us into a false sense that women are now being treated as equals in the oil-rich nation, as I outline in my report.
