Trudeau to repeal transparency laws for unions, First Nations

According to Justin Trudeau, the old government led by mean Stephen Harper, was all about keeping Canadians in the dark while he and his Liberals were going to be all about letting the sunshine in with their “Sunny Ways” and all.

As we’re finding out, that’s easy for a hypothetical government to say but harder for an actual government to do. Governments always want to keep information, not share it, and bureaucrats don't like the public looking over their shoulders.

I've told you about the ridiculous lack of transparency in this new Liberal era of Glasnost with the immigration department refusing to answer access to information requests on the Syrian refugee file because they’re too busy getting refugees into Canada, and how CBC refused to release basic financial information about how your money was spent during the election.

So when Trudeau promised openness and transparency, he apparently didn't mean that kind of openness and it seems he didn’t mean union leaders, native chiefs or band councils either.

Trudeau is getting set to undo basic transparency laws brought in by the Conservatives showing how public money, or money protected by special laws, was being spent. Trudeau doesn't like those laws after getting overwhelming support from union bosses and native leaders, so you should know exactly how he plans on repaying them for their support.

According to reports, when Parliament resumes in two weeks, Trudeau will move quickly to repeal the First Nations Financial Accountability Act and Bills C-377 and C-525.

The Financial Accountability Act allowed the public to see how the billions sent to band councils and reserves was spent. For the first time, those that live on reserves and taxpayers, would be able to find out.

Same with the union laws with Bills C-377 and C-525. The Media Party almost always calls them “anti-union” bills but the reality is they are anti union boss bills.

Unions resented being singled out but let's face facts, they’re the only organizations that are given legal protection to forcibly take dues money from members every week. You can't complain if it’s spent on politics you don't like thanks to the courts, and you can't opt out of paying either. Oh, and those billions collected each year are collected tax free because unions don't pay taxes on dues money.

In other words, the people forever calling for higher taxes don't pay tax because they have special status.

Don’t think that they’ll be giving something in return for that special status either. They don’t have to because Trudeau owes them and to pay them back, he’ll throw his ideals of openness and transparency out the window.

Same old Liberal politics.
