7:22Now PlayingWednesday, April 4, 2018, will mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King. Every year all over the nation people observe this day and use it to unify communities in hopes of making a change.
Roland Martin talks with Terri Lee Freeman the President of the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee and Lee Sanders the President of the American Federation of State County Municipal Employees about the activities planned for the day.
“We have a two-day symposium that is kicking off today. We’re partnering with the University of Memphis law school to really delve into some of the issues that King talked about in his final book Where Do We Go From Here? which is the theme for our event,” explained Freeman.
Lee Sanders will get events started by looking at the community and how people can bring change.
Sanders explained that it’s all, “about organizing our communities, mobilizing our communities and educating our communities. Not only for this weekend Roland but we believe that it is important not only to commemorate what happened 50 years ago but this must be a call to action.”
