6:11Now PlayingThe January jobs report is out and the economy added 304,000 jobs. Unemployment rose over-all from 3.9% to 4%.
The white only unemployment rate was 3.3% which remained unchanged from December. The Black only unemployment rate was 6.8%; more than double the white only rate and is up from December's 6.6%.
Despite Donald Trump's claims that the unemployment rate for African Americans is at a all-time low, Black unemployment is twice that of whites. Is there something else going on within the numbers that would indicate why this trend continues to plague African American job seekers?
Kristen Brody, Ph.D, MBA, an economist at Alabama A&M University spoke with #RolandMartinunfiltered guest host Dr. Avis Jones DeWeever about the January jobs numbers and the underlying factors that impact Black unemployment.
