14:52Now PlayingThe Yard, the most important outdoor space at Howard University is under attack by newer, richer, white folks as the area around Howard get gentrified.
They stroll through the campus, picnic on the grass and walk their dogs.
The Yard is a cherished place on campus where students and faculty come during breaks in between classes, during regular down time, and to socialize with each other on an everyday, all-day basis.
Howard Homecoming takes place there. Many organizations, including 5 of the 9 black Greek letter organizations that were founded on Howard's Campus, have plots there to commemorate their organizations. Students feel that seeing anything besides themselves and faculty roaming their campus' historic yard is discomforting and disrespectful.
