8:53Now PlayingThe Baltimore Sun's Editorial board has stepped up with their support for the HBCU coaltion fighting against the state of Maryland and Gov. Larry Hogan.
A coalition advocating for Maryland's four historically black universities has had a 13 year old lawsuit with the state claiming that the state's university system long fostered segregation by allowing well-funded academic programs at traditionally white universities to undermine similar ones at Maryland HBCUS.
THE HBCU coalition sent a letter to elected officials offering to settle its 13-year-old lawsuit against the state for $577 million in the beginning of this month.
Last week, Gov. Larry Hogan made a "final offer" of $200 million to settle the longstanding lawsuit.
The Baltimore Sun released an op-ed slamming Gov. Hogan for his response to the request saying: "Mr. Hogan's no-room-for-negotiation offer comes across as little more than an attempt to get rid of what has become an irritation rather than a solid effort to truly redress the damage of the past."
