12:09Now PlayingTuesday marks a year since Ahmaud Arbery was pursued and killed by white men as he jogged through their neighborhood.
On February 23, 2020 Arbery was shot by Travis McMichael and his father and former police officer Greg McMichael, who followed Arbery in their truck before gunning him down with a shotgun. The McMichaels neighbor Roddie Bryan followed as well and recorded the ordeal. Arbery's death was overlooked for months until video of the incident was leaked online in May.
Arbery's family wants to make sure his life is not overlooked today, therefore they plan to lead a memorial procession this evening through the Satilla Shores subdivision, where he fell bleeding in the street from three close-range shotgun blasts. Organizers asked supporters outside Brunswick to participate virtually, running for 2.23-miles to remember the avid runner.
The three men arrested and charged with murder in Arbery's death are in police custody awaiting trial.
