Everyone knows J. Edgar Hoover's FBI had an extensive surveillance operation that targeted civil rights activists and the Black Panthers, but the records of these activities have been locked away for decades.

Now, legislation has been introduced to require the government to release records from the FBI program that monitored the Panthers and other activists.

In addition to requiring the release of files from COINTELPRO, Rep. Bobby Rush's new bill is seeking to remove the name of J. Edgar Hoover from the FBI headquarters.
