3:19Now PlayingAlso in California, five Palo Alto police officers are suing the city over a now removed 245-foot-long Black Lives Matter mural across the street from City Hall.
The officers say the mural was "discriminatory and harassing" and included anti-police imagery creating a hostile working environment.
The mural was a temporary installation in June 2020. The city's Public Art Commission got different artists to paint "Black Lives Matter" near City Hall.
The second "E" of the mural included a picture and a quote from former Black Panther member Assata Shakur.
The suit states it also included the New Black Panther Party logo, which officers complained to the city constituted a violation of the Fair Employment and Housing Act.
Palo Alto City Council had the mural removed back in November, saying "the anticipated shift in weather and concerns over public safety and traffic impacts."
