An NYPD officer has been suspended without pay after a viral video captured him punching 14-year-old Kyonna Robinson in the head. The officer was supposed to be breaking up a fight at Edwin Markham Middle School between Robinson and a 12-year-old girl when Robinson hit the officer, and he started to engage the teen in the brawl.
Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch put out this statement about the incident.
"What is clear at this point is that these police officers were trying to break up a violent altercation when they were assaulted. What is needed now is a thorough investigation of the entire circumstances, not just what has been posted online."
Mayor Eric Adams said he was not pleased with the video.
