10:05Now PlayingA Washington D.C. family is demanding action in the death of 13-year-old Karon Blake.
Blake was killed in Washington, D.C., on January 7th after a man thought the teen was tampering with cars. The unidentified man shot Karon, who later died at a local hospital.
Though the shooter remains unnamed, Metropolitan Police say the shooter is Black.
The community is outraged that the Police have not released the suspect's name or charged him for what seems like a vigilant killing. During Tuesday's city council meeting, Blake's grandfather, Sean Long, said this about the lack of action.
"I didn't know you could get a gun permit and shoot someone for messing with a car. I'm Black. If I were to kill a White boy on that street, they would've put me in jail."
The police department's homicide branch is currently working with the U.S. Attorney's Office to determine if potential criminal charges will be filed.
