Speaking at Moral Monday in Washington, D.C., Rev. Alan O’Neal Jackson called the Supreme Court decision ending temporary protected status for more than a million Haitian and Syrian people “immoral, shameful, unjustifiable.” He warned that asylum seekers can be turned away and that families could be separated, local economies harmed, and people forced back to countries facing violence, instability, and humanitarian collapse. He also challenged the dehumanizing lies told about Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, saying community leaders described them as neighbors who helped revive the city.
