James Talarico joined Roland Martin Unfiltered and accused Ken Paxton and John Cornyn of selling out Texans for billionaire MAGA donors.
Talarico said both Republicans have used positions of public trust to serve wealthy political donors instead of the people of Texas. He also attacked Cornyn’s support for legislation he said would take healthcare from millions of Texans and food from hungry children while delivering another tax break to donors.
The conversation also turned to Black voter accountability, economic power and voting rights. Talarico acknowledged that Democrats have taken Black voters for granted, said every Black Texan’s trust must be earned, and argued that racist redistricting strips Black and brown communities of both political and economic power.
Roland and Talarico also discussed Black businesses, HBCUs, housing, affordability, grassroots organizing and whether people power can overcome Texas’ entrenched Republican system.
