Roland Martin and the RMU panel confronted congressional candidate William Lawrence over his claim that older Black political leaders are a “big problem” because they “defang the white left.” Lawrence admitted he painted with too broad a brush, said he should have stopped when he acknowledged it was not his place to speak, and said he now needs to repair trust. Roland, Nicole Robinson and Matt challenged him on Black political leadership, white progressive purity and whether Black constituents could trust that they would not be treated as expendable.
