Ben Crump joined Nolan Wells’ parents, Christine Wonsley and Elmore Wonsley, to address the latest development in their search for answers: the official state autopsy has reportedly been completed, but the report is still being withheld from public release. The district attorney’s office says the evidence will remain restricted while the case is prepared for grand-jury review, but the family says they still cannot rest without knowing what really happened to Nolan.
Crump says the situation is “not adding up,” and he explains why the family remains deeply concerned. He says the independent autopsy conducted by Dr. Roger A. Mitchell Jr. was limited because Nolan’s airways and lungs had already been dissected before Dr. Mitchell was able to examine the body. According to Crump, that made it impossible for the independent pathologist to determine whether water was present in a way that could fully confirm or explain a drowning conclusion.
That uncertainty is central to the family’s frustration. Crump says simply saying Nolan drowned does not answer the real questions. The family still wants to know what condition Nolan was in before he entered the water, whether he was conscious or unconscious, and whether he entered the water voluntarily or was forced. Those questions remain unresolved even as the official autopsy is complete.
Christine Wonsley says the family will not be able to rest until they get answers, and Elmore Wonsley says all they want is the truth. Crump says they are going to dot every I and cross every T until they find out what happened to Nolan Wells, and he urges anyone with information to come forward because somebody saw something and somebody knows something.
Roland Martin also explains why sustained attention matters. He says the job of Crump is to keep the attention on the case because otherwise Mississippi would gladly allow it to fade away. At the same time, Roland warns against speculation without facts, saying that when people do not operate from a set of facts, they only contribute to more nonsense.
The central conflict is clear: the official autopsy is finished, but it is still being withheld, and the independent autopsy could not fully answer the most important questions because critical organs had already been dissected. For Nolan Wells’ family, that means the truth still feels withheld right along with the report.
