Roland Martin sits down with Dr. Randal Pinkett and Dr. Jeffrey Robinson, authors of Black Faces in High Places: 10 Strategic Actions for Black Professionals to Reach the Top and Stay There, for a #RolandsBookClub conversation about what it takes for Black professionals to reach positions of power without leaving their community behind.

Pinkett and Robinson explain why getting a Black face into the C-suite, boardroom or another position of influence isn't enough. Black professionals who reach those rooms have an opportunity to use the levers available to them to support Black businesses, Black-owned media, future Black leaders and the creation of generational wealth. As Pinkett puts it, representation without representing the community fails to use the power that comes with the position.

Roland also gets personal about knowing your value in corporate America, including why he refused to sacrifice outside income for opportunities at CNN that didn't compensate him for what he would lose. The conversation examines entrepreneurship, corporate barriers, mentorship, Black business ownership, supplier diversity, contracting and why billions in corporate spending can matter far more to Black economic power than highly publicized philanthropic commitments.
