Journalist Yaari Cohen posted a video of an Israeli Merkava Tank rolling over an “I Love Gaza” art piece at the Rafah border crossing.
The American Law of Armed Conflict and International Humanitarian law specify that “military necessity” permits measures which are actually necessary to accomplish a legitimate military purpose.
It can be assumed that destroying the “I Love Gaza” art installation was not necessary to destroy HAMAS or free any hostages.
In addition, making a habit of attacking items of cultural interest could create opportunities for the adversary to employ IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) against friendly forces.
Destroy only what you need to accomplish the mission.
