Elon Musk Tweeted “Meanwhile, some idiots are still building manned fighter jets like the F-35”

This is an incredibly bad take and there are a couple of reasons why.

#1. Ukraine may see the rise and fall of small cheap drones all in one war. The only reason Ukraine relies so heavily on drones is that they have no other alternative. Small FPV drones are a very poor way of causing mass casualties.

#2. The electromagnetic spectrum is incredibly contested right now. In order for a drone to receive commands, from a HITL (Human In The Loop) operator, it must contact that operator. Autonomous HOOTL (Human Out of the Loop) drones are possible, but this may be too large a cognitive leap for the US.

#3. Small, cheap drones don’t have the range or payload to project power the way a jet fighter can.

#4. Small, cheap drones don’t have the sensor capabilities of a fighter.
