"They say that timing is everything. In the case of one news anchor for San Diego’s KUSI-TV, shockingly terrible timing is why an unremarkable puff piece turned into one of the most cringeworthy news segments of 2018.
The news piece was likely supposed to be a light-hearted but largely unremarkable puff piece on the Inflatable Run, a race that promotes getting off the couch and appreciating inflatable slides and balloons. That’s not how it turned out. Right away it seems like meteorologist and, as Vice pointed out, jazz musician Dave Scott was doomed for failure. Surrounded by bright, inflated balloons, Scott awkwardly asks his co-anchor back at the studio whether or not inflation is a good thing or not a good thing. It’s an awkward setup, and Scott’s stammering delivery doesn’t help things, but you can kind of see the cheesy local news hook he’s trying to use. Economic inflation is a bad, but balloon inflation is fun!"*
