The media in the US likes to focus on the protests in Cuba but they seem small compared to the uprising the States had last year. Lula seems poised to win in Brazil. But what about the assassination in Haiti? Who was behind that?

Caller: Wanted to talk about Colombia.

Emma: Okay

Caller: Kind of like I just feel like there is this insane machination going on right now. and it works in concert with the capital. but I feel like the guys over at Machete and TMK and like there has been some sort of synthesis.

Emma: I don't know what that is?

Matt: Two podcasts Machete mate Austin Gonzalez and crew and the TMK are that This Machine Kills. Yeah, Ed Anguesso and Jason Sadowsky. Yeah, two podcasts.

Caller: Okay yeah and then they've been doing some good stuff. But I haven't really and I know the synthesis exists out there because it must in some fashion. But like there's this there's like this weird thing going on in Haiti with the assassination that's going to that happen. Then you have like all of these protests that have been going on for over a year in Colombia. And now Cuba is getting thrown in the mix. And I feel like everyone has kind of been like sort of touching on this but I haven't gotten like a real I don't know if anyone's been able to synthesize like how capital has been functioning in a way in concert. And I don't know if that's by design by the actors of capital that are mitigating any sort of information getting out. Or it's just like not there and like I'm being totally Binder in conspiracy theory.

Matt: Which I mean I guess my rough overview of what's happening. I mean I'm very cynical about the emphasis being placed on Cuba recently over protests that frankly pale in comparison to stuff we saw domestically. I think that that is being boosted by figures on the right and I guess we'll call it the imperial center. To distract from what's going on in other countries. Right like the Haiti stuff Columbia. But also you have in Peru like in chile you have a lot of like the basically the return of the Pink Tide if it ever left. And I was right, so that's what capital I think is not entirely in control of the situation. I think at least I could be optimistic about that. But I think that that's what I view Cuba as. Like we need to try to juice some old cold war thing because that's the playbook that we have for responding to things like maybe a new constitution in Peru. And and and also like the dirty business that we're probably facilitating to some degree in Haiti and Colombia.

Caller: Right, I'm not disagreeing that there's a dynamic relationship with politics going on in South America. What I'm asking is like is there a contextualized analysis of capital's response to the pink the new you know the new pink tide? Do you know what was going on in Chile? And now you got Lula also coming back. I mean these are very dynamic forces at play but I was wondering if there is a structural analysis that talks about capital's response in concert. As far as South America goes. Or if you could recommend something or know something like that's that's recently contextualized because there's just so much going on I think that you guys had a some speaker on that the question was positive like does like this revolution or like do all these things is there like one specific moment and i think that he said it was no it was many many moments like together that that bring about revolutionary change. And i'm just wondering whether or not these conditions are being met right now for you know sea change.
