Jack: Hey sam this is jack calling from Albany how are you?
Sam: Jack from Albany. I'm well what's on your mind, jack?
Jack: Well I've been thinking a lot about the New York 2022 democratic primary and specific sort of how I feel like Kathy Hochul Governor of New York is sort of a wolf in sheep's clothing for progressives. so basically she has kept a lot of people from Cuomo's administration. I don't think she's doing enough to hold the Cuomo people to account. For example, she's left the president of SUNY who you know was helping Cuomo during the period at which he was abusing these staffers. And I'm just sort of nervous that New York State is going to be left with another fake progressive who slaps her name on these progressive policies, or you know half measures rather than a true progressive like perhaps Jumaane Williams or Leticia James. so I was just wondering what you were thinking about Kathy Hochul up to this point.
Sam: I mean I'm not if you think I'm not a huge fan. but I will say that the difference between Kathy Hochul and Andrew Cuomo at the very least is going to be really it is the senate. is that you don't have the IDC anymore. and that just the context in which she operates is different. but I agree with you like she would not be my first choice. and Suozzi may sort of eating into her support. so in that respect, it's…
Emma: It could be a four-person race. I mean I just worry that I would probably want your money to win as of now. but he's it's going to be interesting if he and James kind of split the leftier side of the vote.
Jack: yeah yeah that's what I'm that's what I'm worried about as well. I think she's really going to be able to sort of back into the nomination you know with them both out there. But I mean I hope we can push her to the left with this upcoming legislative session. I think she's going to try to portray herself as sort of like Suozzi and I think she's going to try to portray herself as more of a moderate. So you think I do think that we really need to push her to the left and if we can't do that then we really have to get on board with either Tisch James or Jumaane Williams if we're going to have a true progressive governor in New York state. I agree we probably should make that decision early. I don't know about you but in terms of record, I Jumaane seems to stand ahead on progressive…
Jack: yeah I mean as far as progressive yeah progressive bonafides. I would have to agree that he certainly does statewide electability. On the other hand, you know that that sort of makes me lean towards just James. but thank you guys for doing the show for sure.
Emma: Let me just quickly just say in terms of like for people who may not realize as a g she's going to be able to use all of this Cuomo stuff to her advantage. I think that you might be right about electability but in terms of like if the race is wide open at this point, we should start building up Jumaane because he's the most progressive.
