Brandon: oh how about Christian author Eric Metaxas?
Emma: I literally knew this would appeal to you. let's well let me find that on where is that on the sheet it's number six numbers.
Brandon: I mean you know how I feel about the Christian occult. So I feel like you know I know spirituality gets a bad name. But you know, slavish devotion to the black and white morality of Christianity tells me that people aren't ready for the true nature of the spiritual realm. abject and utter chaos and a lack of reason.
Emma: Let's do that then. so eric Metaxas who is an evangelical influencer basically right? That's his vibe?
Matt: Yeah I'd say I mean he's the type of guy who I basically always leave off the sound sheet because I don't think he's ever been quite significant enough to really comment on. but the name is funny and it looks like he might have been too concerned about the taxes and not the pandemic but anyway sorry I stepped on.
Emma: yes he's a Christian author. he's a radio host. and of course, that comes with covid denial and vaccine denial. Now I think we have two clips here, one is from him from last July. Let's play that first and then play what's happening currently in his life.
Metaxas: the bottom line is questions come up about the vaccine. People say I'm not gonna do this experiment. I've watched this pandemic roll out and I'm not afraid of getting it. My kids aren't afraid of getting it. This is not a big deal for us. I'm not gonna put some experimental thing in my system when we literally don't know what could happen. so no no no I'm not going to do this. so then you have people saying oh no you must do it. the government says you must do it. And I think again Americans need to understand if the government or everybody is telling you you have to do something we don't dissent. no dissent. you need to understand that's not the American way folks. and if only to be a rebel you need to say I'm not going to do that.
Emma: So that was in July right and that I think epitomizes a lot of the conservative mindset which is essential if people are telling you to do it especially those liberals you gotta just rebel against it. they're the kid that when the parent says don't you touch the hot stove they smile devilishly and touch the hot stove because that's really what motivates it that's why someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene or Boebert has resonance with that base because they love triggering the libs by just not doing what they perceive the orthodoxy is telling them to. but now with that in mind, that was from July here's Eric Metaxas now. he has been missing from his radio show for two weeks and it appears that there was an outbreak of covid in his family including the infection of his 94-year-old father who ended up having to go to the hospital.
Metaxas: I got covid. Suzanne got covid. I don't know if she gave it to me or I gave it to her. but then she went to visit my parents and gave it to them. and my mother got it. and my father got it. and my current daughter I won't use her name on the air let's just say Hortense my current daughter went to nurse my parents. so this has been the craziest time in the math axis family folks if you've been wondering where I've been. I have no idea where I've been. I've been in a perspiring haze for days and days and days. Obviously, I'm mostly out of it. the fact that I can be functional and talk here for the first time in two weeks. but the fact that my parents were ill was very upsetting to me. my dad had to go to the emergency room again. so it's been a really crazy time and I just want to say to our audience thank you for bearing with us because this has been a really unprecedentedly crazy time. and obviously, when your dad's 94 and he has covid and other health issues it's it's just been it's been very stressful I have to say. but God is good.
