Sam: Nancy Pelosi announced that she's running for reelection. because it is so important that she's the only person who can do this. and the idea that I mean so much of our politics at least in the context of the democratic party is that it seems to be trapped by this generation that will not step aside. They believe they're indispensable. and their views are completely ossified. And I say this is someone who feels that my views on some level are ossified. but theirs are completely ossified. and it's stunning. it is.
Alex: I mean it's you know it. I'm approaching being a middle-aged dad and like people two generations ahead of me are still running things. I mean I don't even know what to say at this point. and it's because like Nancy Pelosi has an entire sort of industry of people to whom she is indispensable. because they rely on her for their employment their connections in the party and their power in the party. and they're the only ones that these people talk to every day. right? these hangers-on and long-time aides. and you know former staffers. like it's an institution that tells these people, oh you know you're right you can't step aside because who could fill your shoes?
