Corporate News Already Forgot About Afghanistan...Again

The American media largely ignored the US occupation of Afghanistan for 20 years. Their attention was only brought back to the country to show how the Biden administration bungled the troop withdrawal and subsequent takeover of the Taliban. Now Biden is withholding aid money to the country while Afghans are suffering, and there is hardly a peep from mainstream media.

Sam: Call from a 626 area code. Who's this? Where are you calling from?

Rober: Hi Sam Seder, this is Robert calling from South Pasadena.

Sam: Robert from South Pasadena California.

Robert: Yeah Hi I guess I timed this out pretty well because you guys were talking about Afghanistan today. So that's what I was planning on calling about today. and I just wanted to like to express my disappointment not in just I mean I kind of already expect like the u.s mass media to not really like cover you know the sanctions and you know the crisis there in the country. But I also do feel quite disappointed that the left in America doesn't seem to be echoing this issue nearly as much as I think it needs to be. you know?

Sam: What's happening in Afghanistan. I agree.

Robert: Yeah I mean I think it was Pramillah Jayapal who introduced legislation and 44 house democrats voted against it. and you know it just doesn't seem to be making the news as much.

Sam: You know I mean look, it didn't make the news while we were occupying the country. I tried to make this point the other day that we were engaged in a war with the rock for, you know, at least a decade. and for the most part, part of that was you know early on it was the efficacy of the Bush administration saying we're not going to show any caskets returning. but for the most part, the American public was completely oblivious. completely oblivious in their daily lives. I mean I remember. I remember being on the radio and then and that that couldn't have been past 2007. you know just sort of like shocked. we're killing tens of thousands of people and it says well whatever. I'm going shopping. and yeah so I mean I I I share your disappointment. like I say that we were told before the invasion of Afghanistan that this was you know gonna liberate the afghani people. we're not gonna leave them with a totally destroyed country. and you know it's not like I think a lot of people bought that but that was just sort of you know the at the time what we heard. and we could do we're not doing the bare minimum, we're doing less than the bare minimum. or at least trying to mitigate you know what we wrought upon them.
