6:59Now PlayingWest Virginia Senator Joe Manchin said on Fox News Sunday that he is "not ruling anything in, not ruling anything out" when it comes to a possible third-party run for president in 2024.
Manchin, a Democrat who has often broken with his party on key issues, praised the billionaire-backed "No Labels" group, which advocates for bipartisanship and common-sense solutions. He said that if the Democratic and Republican parties continue to move to the extremes, he believes there is a need for a "Plan B" in the form of a third-party candidate.
Manchin, who is up for reelection this year, has been criticized by progressives for his opposition to key Democratic priorities, such as expanding access to healthcare and addressing climate change. He has also been accused of being too close to corporate interests.
Some people have speculated that Manchin is reluctant to run for president because he knows that he would likely lose. A recent poll showed him trailing his Republican opponent, Governor Jim Justice, by 22 points.
