Republicans have offered a plan that protects Wall Street more than Main Street and would allow big banks to continue to take advantage of consumers. Democrats will not stand for these efforts to water down or weaken consumer protections in this Wall Street accountability bill. Lets be 100 percent clear -- we need to pass a consumer protection bill, not a Wall Street protection bill, said Senator Menendez. A strong, independent agency that can aggressively defend families in all sectors of the financial industry -- thats consumer protection. A weak agency that cant even defend families against commercial banks, investment banks, credit card companies, car dealers, payday lenders, and entities like AIG -- thats Wall Street protection.
