Breaking bipartisan precedent, Republicans have refused to share all the relevant documents pertaining to Judge Kavanaugh’s tenure in the White House and his time as Staff Secretary, raising questions about whether he was involved in controversies such as torture, curtailing of reproductive rights, warrantless surveillance and executive power. The subset of Kavanaugh documents that Republicans have requested from the Bush Library will have been pre-screened by a private legal team whose lead attorney has close ties to the Trump administration. Republicans’ abandonment of bipartisan precedent in handling of Supreme Court nominations raises the obvious question: What are they hiding?
