Mar 29, 201222:51Now PlayingSenator Barbara Boxer, Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, and Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee, held a press conference to discuss the serious economic damages in states across the country that would be caused by the failure of the House of Representatives to pass the bipartisan Senate transportation bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21). Without the funding stability provided by the Senate's bipartisan transportation bill, many projects to fix our nation's crumbling infrastructure -- including the nearly 70,000 structurally deficient bridges -- will be deferred. Short-term stop gap extensions also pose a threat to such projects and the jobs they support.
