Jun 13, 201230:45Now PlayingU.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, and Senate colleagues held a rally in front of the U.S. Capitol to urge the House-Senate Transportation Conference Committee to pass a conference report reauthorizing the nation's surface transportation programs before they expire on June 30. The Senators were joined by job creators, including representatives from the construction industry and transportation sector, which have been particularly hard hit by the delay in passing a transportation bill. During the rally, a convoy of heavy trucks used in road construction drove by the Capitol in support of passing the transportation bill by June 30.
Joining Boxer were Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Mark Begich (D-AK), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), John Kerry (D-MA), Christopher Coons (D-DE), and Richard Blumenthal (D-DE), as well as Jack Basso, Chief Operating Officer of the American Association of Highway and Transit Officials (AASHTO), and Bill Childs, President and CEO of Chaney Enterprises and Vice Chairman of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA).
