Tropical Cyclone Chido hit the island chain of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean, before reaching nearby Comoros and Madagascar, as well as Mozambique.

A senior official in the French territory says there are fears that close to 1,000 people may have been killed by extensive damage from winds of up to 135mph, with this number expecting to increase.
