The Northumberland line will connect towns from Ashington to Newcastle.
It cost just under £300m, and the journey to reopening was filled with delays and diversions, with just two of seven stations opening on time.
Sky correspondent Shingi Mararike spoke to some of the people who rode the first train on the new line.
