'The Greatest Fire That Never Should’ve Happened' is a feature-length documentary covering the 2025 Palisades and Eaton fires in Los Angeles, California. In classic Gonzo fashion, Joel and I insert ourselves into the story, commit a bunch of crimes, and cover the aftermath better than any broadcast news or legacy media outlet wishes they could.
Joel shot this bad boy in that raw, immersive gonzo style that y'all love. So you'll feel like you're right there with us, along for the ride, as we drive from Austin, Texas to Los Angeles, sneak past the National Guard barricades, and get the raw stories from real LA locals.
We expose sensationalized news coverage, call out the government’s glaring missteps in mitigating the catastrophe's destruction, and note FEMA’s abysmal failure to act when it mattered most (FEMA was nowhere to be found). Our never-before-seen footage from deep inside the Palisades evacuation zone shows the extent of the fires' destruction, the devastating effect it had on the residents, and the heroic efforts of those first responders on the front lines. But most importantly, we witnessed local communities band together in moments of true humanity.
